Linda was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. After marrying, she has lived in west Texas, east Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina, and has recently moved back to the San Antonio area. She has sewn almost all of her life, starting with doll clothes and moved onto quilting in 2002 with the birth of her granddaughter. Being self taught she soon found that appliqué was what she enjoyed most. Linda has a minor in art and a major in elementary education she started selling her patterns locally and online in late 2009.
Some of Linda’s favourite projects she has made are http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=7309493769526175391#editor/target=post;postID=1597902953064736640

Quilting Secrets Blog Hop day one

HELLO AND WELCOME TO DAY ONE
OF THE
Quilting Secrets blog hop!!

mrs pickles garden

For those of you wondering how this all started well let me tell you!!

Last year I discovered the online quilting community and was overjoyed by their warmth,
helpfulness and creativity. However, as a new quilter seeing all the amazing
quilting/sewing projects out there I felt quite intimidated.

In fact some projects were so wonderful it got me thinking that their
creators must have some great quilting secrets. With that thought an
idea started to fester in my head...hmmmm Quilting Secrets.....
12 months later and I figured instead of festering I should let my idea out......and

The QUILTING SECRETS Blog Hop was born!!

Christine is from Tacoma Washington where she lives with her husband and their 3 cute pets. She started sewing as a teenager and admits that once she started quilting she was quickly addicted.

After a nice little break from the computer I am back.

This year I really wanted to focus on Christmas and the joy of the season so I turned the computer off Christmas Eve afternoon, unplugged it and didn't bring it back out until today..lol

As you know our family received some sad news before the holidays so this Christmas was both sad and happy. Although there were tears at times for the most part it was a happy occasion.

I hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas that was full of joy, peace and love

Cookie Time

Yahoo today is the first day of winter which means that starting tomorrow the days are going to start getting longer...phew all this sunrise after 9 and sun down before 5 is going to be over soon. Also very happy to report that the world did not end today..Lol I do feel sorry for anyone that actually believed thought, but not too much.lol

Yesterday afternoon my mother and I got a wee bit of Christmas baking done. We usually do a bit more, but this year neither of us was up to baking a lot.

We made whipped short bread cookies which were yummy as always. We also tried a new recipe and made chocolate chip peanut butter cookie cups. It was really easy and they taste pretty yummy.

We also made rum balls. Well I made the mix and still have to roll them into balls today..But they are made...kind of..lol

Last night Mr. Pickles and I made Bratzeli one of his favourite Swiss cookies. We ended up with over 100 cookies so plenty to go around.

This is going to be the 1st year that I haven’t made sugar cookies and spent the whole day decorating them which makes me a little sad. Oh well though there is always next year.

Have a great day

Tea Time

First of all I would like to share some good news. My dad was put on the cancellation lists for both his liver biopsy and the PetScan. The liver Biopsy is going to be tomorrow morning now and the petscan will take place in Edmonton Jan 4th.  It has been a crazy rollercoaster of a week, but I think everyone is beginning to cope a little better now. It’s really hard not to jump to worst case scenario and picture future events where he isn’t around. However, I am getting better at it every day. To be honest I am pretty sure I am just stuffing my emotions down deep inside to be strong and that will bite me in the butt in the long run, but for now it is working.

Okay now for something completely different............tea! Are you a tea drinker? Well I am. I have never been a big fan of coffee. It doesn’t agree with my IBS and more often than not I get too wired off of just one cup to make it enjoyable.  I will have the odd cappuccino if it is in a nice shop or at home if I am not too lazy to grind the beans and start up the espresso machine. However, when it comes to tea I rarely turn it down.  I tend to stay more to the herbal side of teas, but occasionally I make an exception. I also prefer loose leaf to tea bags mainly for the reason that you can make some very interesting combinations on your own.

My top 10 favourite teas are
Camomile
Dutch Rooibos
Mint
Green tea
Orange Pekoe
Lavender
Jasmine
Lemon balm
Lemon verbena
Ginger

Last year I tried to grow some of my own herbs to make tea, but for the most part that didn’t quite work out..lol the camomile didn’t take, along with the lavender and Jasmine. The mint, lemon balm and lemon verbena did grow, but I did not harvest them correctly so at the end of the growing season I didn’t end up with a lot.
Mint and Lemon Verbena

The plan for 2013 is to create a tea section in the garden. At the front of the garden I always have trouble with weeds there, but growing my herbs in pots never works out the way I want it to. I was thinking of creating a section where I put down that weed control paper and then cover that with soil and plant my herbs. Has anyone tried that before? It might not give the herbs soil depth they need to grow, but it might work.
So those are my plans for a better 2013 tea time

Garden tour

I thought I would give you all a tour of my gardens in December.

Here is the main garden.....no really it’s this picture, just under a few feet of snow...lol
The new garden is out back....just to the side of the last chicken coop in the picture below. However the snow is a little too deep for me to go and get a really good picture...lol

Our temps here have been a little bit nicer lately hovering around the -15C mark for the past week. We have been getting a lot of ice fog lately though which means for slippery well everything, but it does make nice hoarfrost.
okay this is more fluffy snow than hoarfrost...but you can kind of see it

I just think that the evergreens really shine at this time of the year. They are just meant to be covered in snow!!

This is Zada rolling in the snow. She LOVES to roll in the snow. In this picture she just looks like she is falling over....lol

So that is where the garden stands today. I hope you are all having a lovely warm day

**** I am still taking new members for We bee Canadian and We Bee with it****
