Are you sure it's not March 30th?

Usually by April 30th spring is in full bloom the weather is lovely and well everything is just peachy keen since the snow is all gone and summer is just around the corner. That doesn’t mean we won’t get snow in May, but if it doesn’t it’s just a quick dusting and that it. However, as I have complained before this year is different. After having 18C weather on Saturday it snowed yesterday morning and not just a bit we got a nice big ole layer of it overnight followed by sleet and snow all day..YUCK

Mr. P got a call from his mother yesterday afternoon saying that the water was up over the road by the farm. Not good since that means that there could be good chance that their basement floods or septic system backs up. On Saturday the ditches were dry, however since the farm backs onto the river all the spring runoff heads their way. The ground was already pretty saturated and this extra snow is starting to put it at its breaking point.

So after supper Mr.P, Zada and I took the truck to see how bad it was. Our first way was blocked due the RM digging on Saturday.

Option number 2 didn’t have a sign but half way down the road we hit this

Option number 3 was a bit iffy since the “good” roads which were perfect the day before were now closed.
Luckily we were still able to go left..towards the farm

As we just about reached the farm we saw this sign
Not good as there is a low spot right after it...but it was okay

But just past the house was this

Mr.P says that this is the highest the water has been here in 30years. The ditches are quite the way down so that is A LOT of water over night.

Right side of the road water was gushing out of the culvert

The water was flush with the left side of the road and going over

The field is almost all water

So there was out little monday night adventure!!
Have a great day

Great customer service

On a whole the customer service industry isn’t quite what it used to be, especially when it comes to online shopping. In the past 5 years I personally have really found it to have gone downhill.  I am in the customer service industry I know what kind of service companies should be giving their customers and 9.5 times out of 10 that just isn’t happening. So when you received GREAT customer service and you have a blog you must blog about it!

A couple of months ago the new Connecting Threads catalogue came out and my parents both fell in love with the arbor window kit using the new Neutral Love line. My mom said I just had to order it for her so she could make it. So I went online to their site and couldn’t find it. I thought I was doing something wrong and sent off an email only to find out that the kit was sold out and that they were not going to be offering a downloadable pattern. So insert pouty faces here for the whole family here until a few weeks later when the pattern came out in a digital download!! We were all happy and I ordered the pattern and then bought the fabric separately to make our own kit.

A few weeks passed and the fabric arrived, however there ended up being one mislabeled fabric. It was suppose to be a cream and a green and blue came instead. So there was no way we could use it in the quilt and were out one colour. I debated phoning in to say what happened since I assumed it would be quite the ordeal and I let another week pass.

Finally I called all ready for a fight. The first thing that surprised me was that a real person answered on the 2nd ring. I was so taken back that my guard went down already. I explained what happened and the service rep apologized and said she would be more than happy to send out the fabric that we originally ordered. However, it ended up being sold out!! I thought she was going to say oh well too bad, but that didn’t happen. She asked what I was making and I told her. She brought up the pattern right away and helped to find a fabric that was close enough to what we needed. She even gave me the fabric numbers so I could look them up and see if it worked too. Once we found the next best thing I thought..Okay here is where they ask for my credit card info and then end up having me buy more stuff to get the cheaper shipping. But guess what that didn’t happen she just confirmed my address said it would be out in 10-14 days and wished me a great day. I was so amazed that I think I said something crazy and then let her go.

I couldn’t remember her name so I waited until the fabric came to see if it was on there. It wasn’t but the initials JP were so JP THANK YOU FOR YOU GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Have a great day.....Last night it snowed again here....YUCK

Spring has sprung?

Well kind of is the only answer that seems to really work for that question. It is hard to believe that it is April 26th and there is still snow outside and not just a little snow...A LOT.

Here are a few pictures of the yard
The driveway is finally drying out. The snow piles that use to be 7feet tall are now about 4 feet tall

Still quite a bit of snow in the front yard. Some piles are still over 6 feet tall.

All the snow still on my garden
The fire pit is starting to show the rest of the snow is still up to the fence which is 4 feet high.

However there are some signs of spring

My tulips are starting to appear as are the lily of the valley.

The tom cats are out seeking our female Bast which is always a sure sign spring is here. This usually happens in February and she has a litter by Easter. So nature on a whole is a few months behind!!

Zada and I have had fun chasing all the new cats in the yard. She isn't quick enough to catch them but she sure tries hard and its good exercise for her and entertainment for me. However she isn't always on guard.

Here she is sleeping while Mr.Tuxedo(what i named him) is trying to look good for little kitty...lol This is after I caught her and the tom cuddling...silly dog! The stray Tom spent a good day trying to mate with little kitty....who happens to be male...

As I said in yesterday’s post the weather is suppose to be warming up this week-end. This has been the coldest April in decades and has left the whole province in a foul mood. All we can hope for now is that once it all melts it dries up quickly and that we have a nice long summer!!!

Have a great day!!

Seedlings update 6

I usually try to have the whole garden in by the 20-25th of May(didn't happen till after June 1st last year), but judging by the fact that there is still about 3 feet of snow on the garden. I don’t see that happening!! They are calling for temps to be around 10C tomorrow and reaching 13C by the weekend so that should help get rid of the snow. However, it may take a month for the garden to dry out!

Yesterday I started doing some transplants. The squash and pumpkins were starting to get a bit gig for their own good so I started with them. I then moved onto the cabbages. I thinned out the cells to one plant each and moved the rest (if healthy) to other containers. After that I pushed the ones left in the cells down and gave them some new soil.

Don’t they look happy!

I then moved onto my peppers and artichokes. The peppers were all nice and happy

I am very happy to report that the cayenne and Habanero peppers are finally starting to appear!!

I forgot to take a pic of the pepper in their new homes...because I was trying to carry 3 trays in one arm while opening the door and dropped them all on the floor. After I got everything sorted out again I totally forgot!!

Once again on a whole I am happy with the way everything is going. Nothing has died yet!! knock on wood!
I am a little unhappy at the slow progress of my tomato’s, flowers and Gonzales cabbages. I think they need more heat. Tomorrow I am going to put up a new light and see if that will help! I also gave everything a little "food" so I hope that helps too!

Have a great day!!

Bee’s helping Bee’s

On Tuesdays when I was finishing up my bee blocks for this month I started to think back to another bee I was in last year were only 2 people sent me blocks. It happens, life gets in the way or people get in over their sewing heads and drop out never to be heard from again. This of course got me thinking even more....how many fellow bees’ are out the missing blocks. Do they make the remaining blocks themselves or like me have orphan blocks sitting around. By now the little hamster in my head was getting a real work out and just as the little guy was about to give in a light bulb went off.

Bee’s helping Bee’s!

What if I created a flickr group where people missing blocks could post the blocks they are missing and other people would help them out and vice versa. So I thought what the heck...create it!

So here is the site.
 http://www.flickr.com/groups/beeshelpingbees/
**** You don't have to be in a bee to take part. Like making blocks and what to help out. feel free to join. Have a quilt that you need help finishing. Feel free to join too! this is all about helping people turn those orphan blocks into quilts******

Here is what you have to do
1. Click on the link above and join the group

2. Open a discussion thread and post a pic of block you had requested a long with a tutorial on how to make the block, colour requirements and any other information you feel is relevant to making the block. Then you post the number of blocks you are missing.
Post what kind of blocks you would be able to help someone out with

Other bee’s that have joined the site looking for help can then peruse through the pics/threads and see which blocks they would like to help out with.  Once you have linked up with someone or a few someone’s and made arrangements to get blocks done your blocks will be marked as DONE and removed from the group. The thread will remain open so you and your new helper bee’s can communicate.

Now here is all the fine print

If you are posting blocks you are missing you must at least make one other block for someone else in the group. If this doesn’t happen you will be removed from the group
Once someone has agreed to make blocks for you whether they actually make them or not is a risk you have to take I will not be hunting down “missing blocks”. If someone does agree to make blocks and then is a no show they will be removed from the group. In this case you can repost your blocks.
All time limits are for you to decided

If you would like to take part here is the button to put on your blog

I hope a few of you decided to come and take part!

Seedlings update 5

It has been a whole month since I started to plant my seedlings and they are doing really good. Cayenne and Habanero peppers are still lagging behind and at 30 days I am thinking that they are not going to sprout. One Habanero started to sprout last week so maybe there is hope, but I am thinking I will have to start again.

All of my plants are now under the lights. We used our old kitchen table and Mr.P fabed up some light holders using clothing racks that my parents left behind when they moved out. Everything is growing so they must be doing their job.

Here are just a few pics. First up are my cabbages, melons, pumpkins, spaghetti and butternut squash.

And here are a few of the tomatoes.

Spring is still a long way off judging by all the snow still in the yard. I was hoping for a slow thaw this year due to the volume of snow we have, but this is getting a bit ridiculous!!! It is April 15th and its looks like February out there!!!

The April showers hop is still going on this week too! Take a look at the creative blogs below!

My day to play

Hello and Welcome
to my stop on the
April Showers Blog Hop!!

Before you read any further I must warn you that today’s stop is strictly a black tie affair. Yep that’s right to read this post I am requiring you to be in your best black tie attire.

What you aren’t wearing that...hmmmm well okay I will give you a pass, but just you so don’t tell anyone else....LOL

I had a few mug rug idea’s running around in my head before this
hop was even announced and time and time again black and white seemed to be calling to me so I decided to have my own little

Black Tie Affair

The first mug rug is  a simple patch work design. It is simple, but the black and white make it is appear to be more than it is!

I really love how the quilting turned out on the back of this one

My second mug rug is a play on a zig zag block. I found it hard to keep the pattern with so few squares, but it still works

And finally I thought I needed a wee bit of colour so I created this. I tried something new to me and pieced the strips directly onto the batting. I then added a border and folded it over to create the binding. It was nice and easy!

Even though it is April we still have A LOT of snow out here. This picture was taken on a 6ft tall pile of snow covering my garden.

I would like to thank Madame Samm and Erin for creating this event and hosting it. I for one am really looking forward to all the inspiring mug rugs! Speaking of inspiration check out the lovely work my fellow hosts created today
Hayley @ Mrs. Pickles < this is me!

Thank you for stopping by today and joining in on my black tie affair. I hope you had fun!
