To seed or not to seed

This time last year I was starting to get ready to plant my indoor seeds. This year not so much and I am itching to get them started, but it might not happen.

Of course I am still planning of having a garden this year and yes it will be the same size as in years past, but I am just not starting seedlings indoors this year. Why... you ask....well with the baby coming in March I thought I might not need the added stress of going downstairs everyday to tend on the seedlings. Even as I type this I am telling myself YES YOU CAN DO IT and YES YOU SHOULD DO IT. It is a pretty easy thing to do that doesn't require a lot of time, however since this is our first child I am not sure exactly how zonked I will be with a newborn, but I know I will be zonked nonetheless..lol

Last year I had planned ahead on the hopes that we would get pregnant and have a little one to tend to during the 2014 gardening season. So I doubled the amount of veggies I would normally can/freeze so I either wouldn't have to process as much or would have the choice of not processing anything at all and still having options in the cold room/freezer. Our plans also included remodeling the kitchen this summer so I knew either way I should process more in 2013 incase there wasn't time or a kitchen in 2014!

It' still hard to think about spring/summer when the yard still looks like this and will continue to look that way for another few months.

Yes it looks nice and sunny....but it is -23C and feels like -31C with the windchill so brrrrrrrr

Nonetheless, I think I may still start a few things indoors. Nothing like last year though. Maybe just a few cabbages and tomatoes to save me going to the city to buy plants. I guess I talked myself into planting seeds indoors after all...LOL

Okay that was my ramble for the day....lol

WIP 19/02/2014

The past week was a hard one. The panic attacks have started coming more frequently. Now anytime I get a wee bit stuffy or heaven forbids warm BAM they start hitting me. I am really hoping that it is just a surge or a drop in baby hormones that is causing this.
Anyhoo speaking of babies I am still in baby supply mode as far as sewing goes. However, I think as of this week I have all the important items I wanted to have made before the little one comes officially done. Nope that is a lie I just remembered I want to make a nursing cover. I know it's not on the list, however after looking at a few in stores they are cheaply made and over priced so I'll try to make my own

I must say when I decided to not take part in any online quilting bee's this rounds I thought I wouldn't get any sewing done. However, with the pressure off from not having to make blocks I have gotten more done than I have in a long time.

Okay now for
February's Goal's

A baby car seat canopy DONE
PeePee TeePees DONE
Baby Wipes DONE

PeePee TeePee's were a success. I think the whole concept is hilarious, but after seeing them in the stores and the price I thought I could whip up a few of my own. I am sure they will come in handy or at least be an interesting topic to discuss..LOL

I also made a few baby wipes using micro fiber cloth. As I mentioned last week my mother made me quite a few burb clothes so I decided to not make any an instead try my hand at a few wipes. I had the foresight to put on my walking foot when sewing these up so working with the microfiber wasn't even half as bad as I thought it would be. I think I will make a couple more of these

Next weeks Plan
Make a nursing cover
Baby Quilt

This week I am going to turn my attention back to my baby quilt. As you will recall it is at this point.

Now here is the question. Do I actually sandwhich and quilt this or do I just sew the backing to the top and make more of a blanket? Option 2 would be easier, however, I am not totally sure what purpose this quilt/blanket will serve yet...carseat cover, using on the floor for tummy time or just a cuddle blanket....or something else..lol

Feb 14th

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Mr.P and I generally do not go all out for Valentine's day instead we exchange cards, maybe a small gift and then one of us brings home takeout.

This year we decided that the new computer was our gift to each other, but we would still exchange cards. Mr.P being the softy that he is surprised me with flowers last night and a little coffee mug this morning with my Dad's favourite mantra on it...."It is what it is" Both gifts certainly made my week.

Today my mother is picking me up and we are treating ourselves to a nice pedicure at the spa and then we are going to prepare a nice meal of crab stuffed mushrooms, leftover Christmas appies, crab legs, scallops and steak for supper...My mouth is watering already!

Have a great day

WIP 12/02/2014

The weeks sure do fly by don't they! It's hard to believe that we are in the middle of February and even harder to believe that I am 35weeks now. Two weeks ago I was ready for the baby and willing myself to go into labour and now I am okay with the little guy staying in there for as long as he likes...lol

As I mentioned yesterday I have been spending time in my sewing room, however, that time has been spent trying to turn one side into a computer room. So far the computer is still in the kitchten and I don't have much to show for sewing...LOL Hopefully that will change in the upcoming week.

Okay now for
February's Goal

A baby car seat canopy

The tutorial I will be using can be found at
http://www.theribbonretreat.com/blog/car-seat-canopy-tutorial.html

Last week I had finished the canopy making a few little changes to the tutorial.

This week I added on the straps.
And here it is on the car seat
WooHoo another finish for me!!

The plan for this week
Originally I was going to make some burp clothes, however my mother made these pretty awesome ones, so I don't really need more.

Instead I am making some smaller microfiber wipes and maybe a few peepee teepeps..lol
This is the fabric for the wipes. I am not looking forward to working with the microfiber, but I plan on just making a couple so fingers crossed it's not too frustrating

and for the teepees

I am back

Okay I didn't really go away since I still managed a few posts without my trusty laptop, but I am now officially a computer owner again...lol

We decided to go with one of those new all-in-one contraptions instead of another laptop. Our laptop didn't leave the kitchen table for 4 years, so we felt that maybe we didn't need another one. Especially since we bought the ipad...lol

The only problem now is that our 24" screen takes up too much space on the kitchen table, which means I have to clean up the sewing room to turn half of it into a computer room. Gesh who let that room get so messy anyhow...not me for sure :P

I am still learning how to use the computer and trying to figure out how to get it to act like our previous one. I use to use IE for most of my online needs, however, I used Chrome exclusively for blogging since both are Google products and I seemed to have less problems blogging that way. For now IE seems to be working, but I might be a no reply blogger and not know about it...lol

So that is what is new on my side of the screen. I hope to get enough cleaning done today that I can find my sewing machine and well sew :)

Have a great day

WIP 05/02/2014

This is the first Work in Progress Report for February and I am sure you were all eagerly awaiting for this post to see if I finished my January goal.....Well...drum roll please...
I did it!!
Okay I finished sewing on the binding last night, but its finished and well before Christmas...lol

Since I cannot edit my pics on this laptop you get to enjoy a peek at the baby bump and my feet..lol

The wonky star table runner tutorial I followed was created by Cathy over at
 http://cathy-blueberrypatch.blogspot.ca/2013/11/wonky-wony-little-star-table-runner.html )

I am very happy with the way the runner turned out even if it is a little more wonky than the tutorial. However, it's a wonky star table runner so anything goes, right!

Okay now for
February's Goal

A baby car seat canopy

The tutorial I will be using can be found at
http://www.theribbonretreat.com/blog/car-seat-canopy-tutorial.html

I have the canopy made.
I started it today and it took a good 2 hours and one sweat stained shirt change, but I am happy with it. I should have smoothed it out better for the pics, but I cannot bend over that far anymore...LOL

I made one change to the tutorial in that I decided to add a second fabric to the front. I thought it would make it look a little fancier :)

The backside is just one fabric...cute little duckies

The plan for this week is to add on the straps

Bad News Good News

I will start with the bad new......our laptop has officially crapped out...that was the technical term used when the tech called...lol When I asked why he said such are things in life one minute they work and then suddenly without warning things get sick and die. It was a very philosophical conversation...lol He was very kind though and extremely helpful so it softened the blow that our non-backed up laptop was going to laptop heaven.

The good news is that he said they will be able to save all of our pictures! As you know my Dad passed away in August and the thought of all of our pictures from the past 5 years being lost was just not an option I wanted to think about. They can also save all our files as well which means all the quilt patterns I have downloaded for future use are saved....PHEW!!

Technology is just too strange. Our laptop was working perfectly and then bam out of the blue its motherboard is dead and the cost to fix it would be far greater than buying a new one. This experience has taught me a few things though....1. buy a backup system, 2. write down my passwords instead of auto saving them via Norton(here's to hoping I can remember them) 3. if something is important print it out or at least write down the website it was on instead of just saving it to favourites. I started pinning a few years ago so most of my internet favs should be on there...but we'll see what exactly they can xfer to a new laptop when the time come.

I will be trying to post when I can on Mr.Pickles work laptop until we can go and get a new one. I feel bad doing that, but it's not like I am doing illegal things on here....lol

Nothing like saving money to by baby stuff and then having to spend it on something else...lol At least I am good at saving money for a rainy day and who said the baby needs diapers, right..they come out toilet trained after all....LOL
