A few garden pics

I know I have kind of dropped out of the blog world for awhile. Its just been hard to talk about the garden since it kind of fell off my radar in July and after my Dad died in August the weeds were so out of control that I could barely bring myself to look at the garden let alone go in it and take pictures and blog about it. A lot of my produce was wasted. We tried our best. I of course wasn't allowed to do anything in the garden, but Mr.P and my Mom tried to do as much as they could.

The garden has been completely done for the past few weeks. We saved what we could and now Mr.P is trying to clear out as many weed as he can.

I have been trying to process as much as I can without over doing it. Right now all I have left to process are the tomatoes.

Here are a few pics of some of the produce from the garden

artichokes. This was my first year growing them. I grew them from seed and got 10 of them.

Sungold cherry tomatoes. I also started these from seed. There were only suppose to be 2 in the garden and we ended up with 5. I guess I got a little messed up when I potted them up. We ended up with 7lbs of them..not counting all the ones we ate off the plants..lol

I dehydrated the 7lbs this is the before pic I shall have to take them out of the freezer and get the after shot

I also grew jalapeno peppers from seed. I am still processing them so I don't have my final numbers yet, but there had to be a couple of pounds at least. We had a cool dry summer so the peppers stayed on the small side. I am pickling most of them.

I grew 4 other varieties of tomatoes all from seed. This was my first year growing tomatoes from seed and I must say they did really REALLY well. This is the nursery or it will be. I hope the tomatoes ripen before the baby.....I also have 2 more boxes in the hall and for more in the garage..LOL
I am looking for a smooth salsa recipe to can. I usually make a chunky salsa and I guess I could just blend it. But I would like to make a smooth one like you get in the old el paso taco kits. If anyone knows of one and would like to share please let me know :)

  1. Garden goodies look good, but......how are you feeling, and when is the baby due? {{{hugs}}}

  2. That's a lot of tomatoes - I would make a quick puree to can or freeze and then you can use it in anyway your like later. That would be the fastest way to deal with them. Yes, when is the baby due???

  4. That is still a lot of produce. I would have no idea what to do with that many tomatoes.
