My best friend, my hero, my dad........

Orest Chorneyko
August 17, 1954 ~ August 1, 2013

Orest passed away at St.Paul’s hospital on Thursday August 1st, 2013 at the age of 58 surrounded by his loving family. He is predeceased by an infant daughter Allison (may 21-dec 23 1983). He is survived by his loving wife Jane, daughter Hayley (Marc) and soon to be grandbaby. He is also survived by his mother Mary Chorneyko, Father John Chorneyko and siblings Diane (Gary) Baronowsky, Paul (Anita) Chorneyko, Roy (Linda) Chorneyko, Anne (Val) Chorneyko as well as numerous in-laws nieces and nephews. Orest was born in 1954 in Montmartre, Sask where he attended grades 1-12. He was very active in school from sports, to SRC, to being the valedictorian of his graduating class. He also had the distinction of winning a bronze medal in the 100 yard dash during the high school provincial games. After graduation he moved to Regina and got a job at Fibro Industries where he saved up enough money so he could attend the Collage of Pharmacy at the U of S. After 2 years he realized that was not his calling and moved back to Regina to be with his sweet pea Jane. He married his high school sweetheart Jane in 1976 and this past May celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. In 1981 one of the proudest days in Orest life was when he became a father to his sweet baby girl Hayley Lynn. She was the pride and joy of his life and was a very devoted father. In 1983 another proud moment was the birth of his daughter Allison. Unfortunately Allison was born 3 months premature and was never able to leave the hospital, however Orest and Jane visited everyday and cherished the time they had with her. Orest had various jobs during his lifetime, but sales was his calling. In 1984 he was hired on by SaskTel to work the Yellow Pages division. It was here that his initiative and aptitude for sales had him moving up the ladder to management very quickly. Although his career with SaskTel started in Regina it later took him and his family to Weyburn, Leicestershire, England finally ending up in Saskatoon where he was the Director of Business Sales and Solutions and Customer Service-Sales. It was while in Saskatoon that Orest's volunteerism really shone. He was on too many committees to count, but some of his crowning achievements were: RUH foundation, Vice president of 2000 Brier, President of 2004 Brier, VP and later president of Credit Union Centre, VP at the Saskatoon Juno’s, VP of Vanier Cup, VP Police and Firefighter games. All of this and more accumulated in him receiving the 2012 B’Nai Brith “We are Proud of you” Award. This was one of the highlights of his life. Orest was always the life of the party and his sense of humor, likeability and kindness drew people to him creating many lifelong friends and touching the lives and everyone that knew him. Orest was a self proclaimed jack-of all trades which also included comedian, and being Mr. Karaoke. Orest you were and amazing husband, father, father in law, son, brother, friend and would have been an exceptional grandfather. You have left us, our hearts are broken, but we will go on. We will remember the beautiful smile that you gave us and how well you fought the battle, not once being angry. just accepting the challenge. Your faith kept you strong and you are in a pain free life now and may the loving arms of Jesus embrace you. The family would like to express special thanks to the Oncology department at the RUH and the Palliative Care Unit of St. Paul’s hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital or The Neonatal Clinic at RUH in memory of Allison Chorneyko. A private family viewing will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Mourning Glory (1201 8th St E) The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m on Thursday, August 8th at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Place).
