WIP 21/01/15

It’s that time of the week again Work In Progress Wednesday and I am still progressing along. My boxes have become a little straighter with practice, however I think the biggest obstacle has been the lack of space I have to turn the quilt around to make the squares. If I wasn’t pushing and pulling so much I wouldn’t have the needle jump at the corners. At least that is what I am going with. That and I figured out the needle has to be down a lot further than I was putting it to keep it from jumping. Practice makes perfect, right?

One of the straighter blocks

One of the block set all quilted

I have 11 more block sets to do. So forty four more blocks and then I am going to stitch in the ditch around each block set and minky blocks as well. I decided to skip quilting the minky, since I didn’t like the way the fabric got squished and created big lines that looked like cuts vs quilting. To finish things up i am going to either stitch in the ditch around the boarder or do some squiggles...not sure yet

As I see that in type it looks pretty daunting! I applauded all of you that can sit down and quilt a whole quilt in a day!! I still have a hard enough time remembering to breath when I quilt that I’m sure if I spent more than an hour at it I would be passed out on the floor with the quilt sewed onto my hand… LOL

So that's it for this week. Hopefully I will have more progress to show next week! My goal is to get at least one set done a day. Lil pickle has me on the run all day but I can get one set done while she jumps in the jolly jumper...so we shall see how that works out!!

2015  Sewing Mission Statement

In order to try and get some UFO's done this year I am going to try and keep my current to do list small and just work on one thing at a time. I am going to try and not start anything "new" but instead take one thing off of my no progress list each month.

No progress Items to date (these are projects that have appeared on the to do list for 1 or more months with you guessed it.....no progress

  1. Love the look of the dimple plush with the cottons - have to try that. I think it is a wonderful finish. I never sit thru a whole quilting (even when just sewing) have to get up and move after 15 minutes.

  4. Too much quilting makes for very sore shoulders for quite some time, so you are doing good taking your time.
A tip I found somewhere: don't sew around a square in one go, but sew in straight lines, finishing each line if you don't want to wander into the next block, then turn the quilt once and quilt the same way all the other sides. Works like a charm for me, hope it helps you.
