My day on the In your words hop

Well it has been one heck of a an emotional roller coaster this past 30 days for  my family and I. I will admit that before cancer touched our lives I had a lot more planed for this hop. However, after that happened I couldn't think of any words that I really wanted to use and I know no one wanted to come to a big ole ball baby post.

During the bowls with borders hop I failed and succeeded at creating my paper pieced bowls. They didn't turn out quite perfect, but I loved their imperfection. In fact they embodied my mantra
Perfection doesn't mean its perfect.(click the link to see my post on that)

Embracing that mantra I tried doing a little embroidery, this is my first ever attempt and well it's not perfect...lol

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you are enjoying the hop. Make sure you check out my co-hosts and see what words they have on their minds

  25. Haley...I think you've done a fantastic job on everything you've attempted. This just adds a nice touch to your bowls. Very sweet.

  26. Perfection is boring. Imperfections set imaginations to flight!!Centries ago...well not quite...as a graduate student in art school, a professor walked us through many galleries encouraging us to watch the patrons...art that appears or 'measures' perfect had very few people viewing, art with imperfections...people lingered and took photos or 'created' the image in sketchbooks.

To the cancer attacking your family may it shrivel and die and never return and may all time and resources lost be returned to you and your family multiplied beyond measure!

  27. Who wants to be perfect? Not me! I wanna have fun! I tell all the class members when I teach at the LQS...have fun, don't fret over being perfect...I love your bowls. 29. Cancer is no respecter of persons.. It is such an ugly evil monster. I will keep you and your family close to heart.

And remember.. no-one is perfect except our Heavenly Father.

Just have fun doing the things you love and find time to lose yourself in your sewing... it will help you get through some rough spots.

  32. I like the bowls. And it looks perfect to me. I am sorry you and your family are haveing to deal with this cancer fight. My family has had to go through this also. My neice was 23 years old when she was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer stage 3. It has been a rough ride for all of us. Also my baby sister was only 31 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo mastectomy. This disease called "cancer" is an epidemic upon mankind and sees no boundaries. it takes the young the old and all those in between. You have to fight it with everything you have and it requires a big team of family cheerleaders when this strikes. I am sure your neice will love her quilt and it will be so helpful to her. When my neice was undergoing her chemo after her surgeries she would freeze at the hospital as she laid their for hours undergoing treatments. She had to take a nice warm quilt with her. Evertime your neice sees this quilt it will be like you are there hugging her warmly. Blessings to you and your family.

  35. You have certainly been productive despite the fear and uncertainty you've been facing lately.
Your little project is PERFECT! You are so correct that perfection doesn't make something perfect. I've never made anything that I thought was made with perfection, but a lot of things that were perfect for their use. Great job! You are so clever!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I loved your project--it's nice to see people continuing to use patterns from previous hops.

  37. No one is perfect. What we create is not perfect either. But I have become creative in covering up those imperfections, lol. Your bowls are great!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think your bowls are perfect. I tell my kids all the time that you cannot create, draw, paint, colour or do anything with your hands and heart...wrong or imperfect because it's something you have made.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think your bowls are perfect just the way they are , they are your creation and sometimes it is the imperfections that make us smile . Thanks for sharing !!

  43. Love your mantra!
I have a similar mantra on my living room wall - Finished is better than PERFECT!

my niece (20 yr) was recently diagnosed with bone cancer - it sure knocks the wind out of the sails... I'm trying to sew her through it to recovery since I can't be there with her in person... so far, I've made her a quilt, 2 hats, 2 scarves, and a shawl... none of them perfect, but with lots of love.

I'm new to embroidery so I'm no judge, but your stitching is beautiful and the bowls are lovely (I'm kind of a fan of stacking bowls.) The "BIG C" certainly stops us in our tracks, doesn't it. My thoughts are with you and your family as you deal it.

  56. when I started quilting i learned from one of my great aunts and she told me that things were ment to be perfectly imperfect because only God made things that were perfect. She told me to embrace the imperfections and use them to grow as a quilter (and as a person) because in the end we the quilters are the only ones that see the "imperfections" the recepiant only sees the beauty in the work. when Before she passed a few years later she gave me an unfinished project and said finish this if you see fit -- but I never have because it's perfect the way that it is.

  71. Some words are more powerful than others in that they can and often do rock our world. Mine is rocking for the same reason so I am sending some of the blessings and strength I have shared with my friends and family in your direction. In fact I could drive them out in the trunk of my son's car as I am heading in your direction this week. May your bowls stay rightside up.

  85. I love the mantra - I think we all need to be more content with our creations. An "old" friend and I reconnected after losing contact for a few years. We had taken crafty lessons together and we each had thought the other was much better at the given craft than the other. Funny how we each perceive things, isn't it. Now we often get together and piece together. We go to quilt gogether and some retreats. In our late 50's and early 60's, we don't give a rat's, who is better at what and gladly ask the other for help and more easily commiserate about the woes of our children all in their 30's. She is remarried to her first husband and I think maybe I might be "dating" my first husband again. Actually we met because our first husband were from the same home town. Funny how life turns out, eh?

  86. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder! Personally I think that all those little "imperfections" are what adds character, and makes something truly yours.(i.e. not a cookie cutter of what everyone else is making)
